The transformative power of digital technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), is profoundly shaping language teacher education. This study explores the potential of integrating these tools into the teaching of Italian as a Foreign Language (FL), emphasizing their impact on the evolution of language education and teacher training. The vast array of digital tools available today offers unprecedented opportunities to enhance language learning. However, effectively integrating these tools within a well-defined methodological and pedagogical framework tailored to specific contexts remains a critical challenge for language education. Teachers must develop the ability to understand, analyze, and critically navigate the implications of their technological choices to fully harness the potential of increasingly advanced digital resources. This highlights the necessity of continuous and targeted professional development for teachers, equipping them to effectively address emerging educational challenges and maximize the opportunities presented by the digital age. In this context, the study presents a teacher training initiative for Italian FL teachers in Egypt, promoted by the University for Foreigners of Perugia. Designed as an integrated program, this initiative combines technological innovation with a solid methodological foundation. Adopting a situated, hands-on approach, the program facilitates the practical and context-sensitive application of newly acquired skills.
Il potere trasformativo delle tecnologie digitali, con particolare riferimento all’Intelligenza Artificiale (IA), sta incidendo profondamente sulla formazione degli insegnanti di lingue. Il presente contributo indaga le potenzialità offerte dall’integrazione di tali strumenti nella didattica dell’italiano LS, evidenziandone l’impatto sull’evoluzione dell’educazione linguistica e sulla formazione dei docenti. Attualmente, la vasta gamma di strumenti digitali offre opportunità inedite per promuovere efficacemente l’apprendimento linguistico degli studenti. Saper collocare consapevolmente tali strumenti in una progettazione metodologica e didattica ben definita e rispondente alle esigenze del proprio contesto, rappresenta una sfida cruciale per il settore educativo. Conoscere, analizzare, sapersi orientare e comprendere le implicazioni delle proprie scelte, permette all’insegnante di valorizzare pienamente le potenzialità offerte da strumenti digitali sempre più avanzati. Ciò determina l’importanza di promuovere uno sviluppo professionale continuo e mirato dei docenti, capace di rispondere efficacemente alle sfide educative e di valorizzare le opportunità offerte dal contesto attuale. In questa prospettiva, lo studio illustra un'iniziativa di formazione dei docenti di italiano LS in Egitto promossa dall’Università per Stranieri di Perugia, concepita come un percorso integrato che coniuga l’innovazione tecnologica con una solida consapevolezza metodologica, adottando un approccio laboratoriale e situato per favorire l’applicazione pratica e contestualizzata delle competenze acquisite.
