This paper presents April, a virtual learning environment specifically devoted to language learning. April stands for: Ambiente Personalizzato di Rete per l'Insegnamento Linguistico. The April project develops two main research topics: the social aspects of web 2.0 and NLP resources and tools for language learning. Formal and informal language learning are integrated in respect of the principles of interaction and authenticity, as key-points of SLA, within the most usable virtual learning environment. Diverse theoretical and technical competences are required in order to answer different needs.
