The paper is aimed at describing the pedagogical perspective, the methodological frame- work and the organization of the online courses delivered by IUL, Italian University Line, the Italian online university co-funded and promoted by INDIRE (National Institute for Documentation, Innovation and Educational Research) and by the University of Florence. Moving from the theoretical background of the Knowledge building model and from a brief introduction to the university system and the perspective of an integrated knowledge system in Higher Education, the paper will focus on the main features of the courses delivered by IUL, with particular attention to a case example from a course in Bio- logical and Epistemological Sciences. Shifting theory into practice means to cope with rules and resources management, espe- cially within a legal and institutional setting as the university system. Strengths and weak- ness discussion on the case example aims to present this ongoing process of quality evalu- ation and self-reflection on teaching at IUL University.
