The paper deals with a case study: “Ecoenglish: English e-learning course for the students of the Faculty of Economics”, an e-learning course of English within the experimental project carried out by “La Sapienza University”, aimed at introducing e-learning paths as an integration to the traditional face-to-face teaching methodology. “La Sapienza” started promoting e-learning modality in 2004, with the installation of Moodle platform on its server and offering teachers and e-tutors the possibility to experiment the e-learning tools directly on self-made courses. Firstly the paper shortly depicts Moodle theoretical framework and principles, in order to focus the attention on the modality how “La Sapienza” is applying them in its e-learning courses.Secondly, the paper means to show a general view of Moodle functionalities, settings and modules, focusing on how they have been exploited and adapted to the specifi c learning purposes of Ecoenglish course. This course was activated during the second semester 2005 at the Faculty of Economics, to offer students resources, activities, grammar exercises, vocabulary bank of words related to the business fi eld, in order to pass the exam of Business English. The course is addressed to those students who cannot attend face-to-face classes because of their job, but it is also conceived as an integration to the traditional learning path for all the other students regularly attending the lessons in presence. The article hints to the most important modules applied: chat, forum, lessons, quiz, resources.
