The Falklands–Malvinas War in 1982 revealed not only geopolitical tensions but also deep religious and ideological divisions within the Latin American Catholic world. This article analyzes the diverse reactions of Catholic actors in the region, focusing on the division between progressive clergy, influenced by Liberation Theology, and traditionalist and anti-communist groups, such as Tradition, Family and Property (TFP). Through archival research, ecclesiastical documents, and transnational publications, the study shows how the conflict became a stage for theological-political interpretation in which sovereignty and identity intertwine. While some bishops supported the Argentine cause as a just war, others emphasized peace and Latin American solidarity. TFP used the conflict to promote its antisecular moral geopolitics, presenting the war as a spiritual dilemma. The article demonstrates how religion shaped public discourse, national iden- tity, and ideological mobilization in Cold War Latin America.
