This article examines the contents of a column titled “Educational Horizon,” published from June 1933 to September 1935, dedicated to the promotion of the Italian language in the USA. Authored by Peter Sammartino and Sylvia Scaramelli, the column explored various issues, challenges, endeavors, and successes in the campaign to disseminate Italian in schools. The focus of the article is on the editorials written by Peter Sammartino that prove his commitment to and role in promoting Italian language teaching in the US in those years, columns and where he articulated his pedagogical vision for teaching the Italian language and culture and, as well as education more broadly. The article also analyzes Sammartino’s relations with other key players in the promotion of the Italian language in the US at that time, including Fascism.
