Brick is one of the earliest materials used by man to build homes, as early as 4000 b.C. There were numerous brick producers in Umbria. Currently, their number has been significantly reduced due to economic reasons. Nowadays the brickwork is the result of the activity of some small producers together with two large (industrial) companies. The small producers can be called artisans according to the common meaning of that term. One of the large companies is FBM - Fornaci Briziarelli Marsciano SpA, whose evolution is presented in this paper.

Abstract
