«Cultural studies at large». Cartografia di un campo intellettuale globale attraverso le sue riviste

What does cultural studies look like today and how has it developed since its foundation in the Sixties? This article tries to answer these and other questions about the historical and socio-cognitive structure of this intellectual formation by empirically investigating one of its major institutional pillars: the journals’ field. Focusing on bibliographical evidence drawn from the Web of Science database referred to 45 journals classified as belonging to this research area, for a total of more than twenty-three thousand articles, and with critical comparative references to other bibliographical sources (i.e. Scopus and Ulrich), the article reflexively contributes to ongoing debates about the current status of CS and to the diffusion of a culture of statistical reasoning and modeling in step with both more rigorous, evidence-based research standard and our digital times.
