Anniversaries generally provide suitable opportunities to carry out overall evaluations on the actual configuration of a constitutional order, especially if – as in Italy – it has been the subject of a heated and participated political-institutional debate, during the recent constitutional referendum in December 2016. It would seem, therefore, appropriate to propose a reflection on the state of the Italian Constitution today, on the reasons for its continuing validity, on the transformations that have taken place over time, on the processes of change introduced and on those rejected by the electoral body. This in the context of a short analysis, including comparative perspectives, on the dimensions of contemporary constitutionalism, on the factors of crisis that it is going through and on the opportunities and challenges currently facing constitutional systems, increasingly characterized by complex multilevel dynamics
