Tendances globales, dynamiques locales: l’agriculture industrielle, l’agroécologie et les voies vers la durabilité au Burkina Faso

Agriculture holds enormous potential to support efforts aimed at addressing some of the most pressing global challenges. It is becoming increasingly clear, however, that the only way to unlock this potential is to make agricultural and food systems more sustainable. In recent years, several approaches have been proposed, and among them agroecology has attracted growing interest. The importance of a sustainable transition in agriculture appears even more evident in countries such as Burkina Faso, where agriculture plays a key role in ensuring local food and economic security, while at the same time the sector must contend with complex environmental conditions. The aim of this chapter is to help clarify whether, in light of these particular local circumstances, agroecology can represent a viable tool for enabling Burkina Faso to progress towards agricultural sustainability and greater food security.
