This work contributes to the broader debate on historical memory and education in the colonial era by examining the representation of Italian imperialism in Africa as it was taught and presented at the University for Foreigners in Perugia during the Fascist period. Through a detailed analysis of curricula, academic publications, and previously unexamined archival documentation from this university, the work illustrates how Italian imperialism was perceived and interpreted within such a peculiar educational context. It focuses on the contribution of lectures and conferences to the cultural development process of myth-making about Italian colonialism, aimed at supporting at home and in the eyes of foreign attendees the link between fascist cultural policy and expansionist policy in Africa. Finally, it addresses the issue of assessing the impact of these teachings on students' understanding and opinions about Italy's role in the African colonial context. From the archival documents, the focus was on three types of enrollees: Africans, citizens of other European nationalities residing in African lands, and Italians living in African countries.
