Il paradigma geopolitico. Le relazioni internazionali nell’età globale

The complexity of global world and the failure of any attempt to export democracy have forced us to rethink the cosmopolitical perspective of international relations theory. The geopolitical paradigm, which has been revisited and changed from its traditional approach, can be useful to interpret new global scenarios allowing us to observe inter-states relations and civilizations (Western, Chinese, Islamic), thus understanding the polarization of the international system and the construction of supranational political identities. This paradigm furthermore suggests an interpretation of power politics and rivalry between States by focusing on the strategic role of Eurasia, the control of major shipping routes and the dominance of the air space. Finally, this paradigm allows us to consider the globalization of world economy as a process linked to specific functions of territories and global cities.
