The recent leanings of the Italian Supreme Court reveal a growing attention to gender perspective in the decisions concerning the recognition of internationalprotection. This evolution is intended to encompass the use of a gender perspective in granting refugee status, subsidiary protection or other forms of international protection, in order to guarantee, within the Italian legal system, the full implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence and ratified by Italy in 2013.the decision of the Italian Corte di Cassazione under review expresses the efforts to reconcile the Italian international protection practices with international and European standards on the rights of women, in the light of a gender focused perspective.
