The contribution analyzes some aspects of U.S. language policy and how its objectives are linked to strategic and economic interests. During the past 70 years, strategic plans to improve Americans’ language skills have been promoted, but not always successfully. Scholars and institutions currently affirm and demonstrate that the development of multilingual approaches in schools and universities can be much more effective in preparing America and American citizens for the challenges that await them.
